Beneath the Storm

I stood where the sky grew heavy and the light began to fall

Every breath a question, every silence holding all

The storm arrived without a warning, soft at first, then deep

I closed my eyes and let the rain begin to wash the years I keep

Thunder moved across the distance like a voice I almost knew

And in the dark I felt the first true wave of something new

I surrender to the water

I let the current pull me under

There is no shore I’m reaching for

Only the quiet at the center of the roar

Let the storm take what I carried

Let the rain erase the pain

In the sublime descent I find me

In the wave I lose my name

When the thunder finally softens

And the sky begins to clear

I rise renewed from every droplet

With a lighter heart, a cleaner year

With a lighter heart, a cleaner year

I descend through layers of memory the surface never showed

Where the oldest weight is waiting and the oldest wounds still glow

But the water does not judge them; it only moves them free

Each drop a small forgiveness I was too afraid to see

When I touch the quiet bottom I no longer need to hide

The storm has done its work and left the light on the other side

I surrender to the water

I let the current pull me under

There is no shore I’m reaching for

Only the quiet at the center of the roar

Let the storm take what I carried

Let the rain erase the pain

In the sublime descent I find me

In the wave I lose my name

When the thunder finally softens

And the sky begins to clear

I rise renewed from every droplet

With a lighter heart, a cleaner year

All the years the sky withheld

Are falling now, the story’s told

What the storm has taken clean

Is everything I no longer need

I open to the clearing air

And leave the old weight standing there

Let the storm take what I carried

Let the rain erase the pain

In the sublime descent I find me

In the wave I lose my name

When the thunder finally softens

And the sky begins to clear

I rise renewed from every droplet

With a lighter heart, a cleaner year

With a lighter heart, a cleaner year

The rain has passed…

I step forward…

The world is new…
